HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!! HAPPY NEW DECADE!!

This year brought about many changes and surprises. I mean, I certainly didn't begin the year thinking I would close out the year with pink hair, but there you go. And that isn't even the biggest change. But I am ready for the new year and new decade! 2010!!!

So in honor of ushering the new year in, I will be cleaning/reorganizing my crafts and master bedroom and closet. Also lots of laundry! I really want to get it all caught up today. Wouldn't that be nice to start the new year with no laundry to do?

I've made a list of 53 things I want to do in 2010, in honor of my 53rd birthday in June. Blogging more is actually one of them. : )

Hair Raising Experience

Okay, so I will admit I saw Elsie Flannigan's red hair and thought "Oh, how cute"! I thought maybe I would dye my hair a kind of medium-dark reddish shade. Although I've dyed my own hair many times, I've lnever actually used pure bleach. I've always just used the one-step boxes you get at the store. I have added highlights, but it's not the same as using bleach all over.

So I look at all the boxes and I find the one with a model on the front with the color of red I think I'd like.
See how dark the girl's hair looks? Vibrant, but a dark red. So I buy it, come home and follow the directions, which include bleaching first and covering with plastic, so you can't actually see what it happening underneath. I leave it for the minimum of 30 minutes, take off the plastic bad and not only is the front of my hair platinum blonde but because there really wasn't enough bleach for all my hair, the rest is splotchy. I'm scared, but I push on... at this point what else can I do?

I put on the bright, reddish pink dye and cover again with a plastic bag. I waited the minimum time, pulled off the plastic bag and stuck my head under the bathtub faucet without even looking in the mirror. The bathtub quickly fills with bright pink runoff as Jussara walks into the room. We are both confused. "Oh Mom, oh Mom"! But I still haven't seen my hair yet. I finally get it rinsed and look into the mirror. I was in utter and complete shock.

I feel like laughing and crying at the same time. It DOES NOT look like the girl's hair on the box. I get it dried, and show Cameron, he is shocked and laughing and immediately starts taking pictures. I show Greyson and he says he loves it. He wants to do a photoshoot. The next day, Jaiden wakes up and sees it and likes it. I get a text later in the day from Cameron asking me to leave it this way for awhile. He likes it. For the first two days I wear it completely tucked up under caps. I was taking Jussara to school and didn't want to embarrass her. By the third day, she was used to it and I just wore it exposed. Now she loves it. They all do. What the hey!

I am scared to try and change it for fear I will turn it orange or green. I've decided to keep it until Christmas. It is kind of festive and Christmasy. Since my kids actually love it and I am trying to get used to it. It's fun. Life is short - do some crazy things once in a while, it will always make a good story later on in life. LOL. The only real problem is trying to coordinate my clothes with my hair without clashing. So here's the Red Hair! I actually looks more red irl.

Black Friday & Thanksgiving

So Happy late Thanksgiving! Ours was pretty good, but the turkey was dry. Couldn't find the bulb to the baster, so I didn't baste very often. Last year it was so flavorful, juicy and tender. The gravy turned out good tho, so that helped.

So no Black Friday shopping for me. In bed with heating pad, need I say more? Just starting to feel a little better. Maybe the Midol helped.

I have had the desire to crochet and knit but no energy. However, I did get the living room completely cleaned and rearranged for the Christmas Tree we will finally be putting up this weekend. Wanted to get it up early but we didn't.

Exciting news - HOBBY LOBBY opened here in Northeast Phoenix in the old Mervyn's building. Cam went there today and said it was HUGE!!! Oh boy! And they have FABRIC!!! I picked up a bunch of retro patterns for $1.00 each (regularly about $15) a couple of months back, and I can't wait to sew up some "Mad Men" inspired dresses and little jackets.

My sister Jan got me hooked on Farmville and it got to be too much, so now I am only planting crops that take between two to four days. lol. It is fun tho! Check back in soon!

Late on Shop update

Sorry, I haven't been able to update my shop yet. Now Jaiden and I are both sick. Feeling very weak and tired. How long is this going to go on. Ugh! I will let you know when I finally do get it updated! Thanks!

Tuesday

So today I am going to photograph some more of my crocheted and knitted items formy Etsy Shop, RetroModernSusie. I plan on doing a little house cleaning, some laundry and developing my idea for my next painting. I also have some chunky, fun green yarn that I LOVE and Iam trying to figure out what it wants to be.

I am having a bit of hard time figuring out how to post several internet photos on one post. I guess for now, they will have their own post. At least until I figure it out! I'll just post some of my Etsy stuff.

Monday, Monday

So my oldest child will turn twenty in less than two weeks. Yikes! It's true that they grow up so incredibly fast. He took a picture with me yesterday during a photoshoot for my Etsy shop. He is rockin' a new look. It reminds me kind of a beatnik/ratpack/nerd mash-up. LOL!
Today I will continue to photograph my items for my RetroModernSusie etsy shop. I also will be posting a couple of mixed media paintings. I can't wait to get more and more stuff up!

WOW! I am so excited that I finally got my Etsy shop up and running today! I've been taking photos of my items and uploading them. I still have a ton more to do! I think my favorite is the Santa Hat, but I love all of them! It is so much fun to make them!
I have been dreaming of opening this shop for a long time, and now it's finally happening. Just wanted to make this post because I am so excited! Now back to work uploading photos!

First Post!

I am very excited to finally be getting started on this blog, and on my Etsy shop, RetroModernSusie. I have been designing, crocheting, knitting, dying fabric and sewing for the past several months. I am in the process of having everything photographed and I will be uploading new items every day.

It has been such a wonderful creative adventure to work on all these items, and I am so inspired to just continue. I hope you like what I've created as much as I've enjoyed creating them.

Now, back to setting up my Etsy shop!!
